Litewave Media Films Nobel Peace Prize Winner Elie Wiesel

It’s inspiring to work with people who change the world, and last month, we worked with a great man, Elie Wiesel, holocaust survivor and political activist. He is the author of 57 books that were inspired by his experiences in life. His most recognized book, Night, is based on his experiences as a prisioner in a concentration camp during the second world war. Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for speaking out about racism, violence and repression.

Our Tampa video production company was humbled and honored to film an interview with him, as well as photograph him. “I remember reading his book Night in high school,” says Christian Cashmir, Litewave Media founder, “It really changed the way I saw the world as a young person. To meet the man behind this book and so many others was a really amazing experience.”

The interview was setup at a local college in St. Petersburg, Florida where Wiesel was speaking. Our Tampa video crew arrived at Eckerd College and began setting up and lighting the location. We brought our Tampa grip truck and lit the interview with Kino Flo Divas and an LED light kit to complement the natural daylight from the windows. We filmed the interview with a Canon C100 video camera and a Canon 5D Mark III.

Elie spoke about his personal experiences, the obstacles he has had to face and the support he received from his family and friends. It was very interesting hearing his perspective and insights to the world.

Litewave Media Films Guiness Record Tightrope Walker Nik Wallenda for TIME

Litewave Media Films Guiness Record Tightrope Walker Nik Wallenda for TIME

Litewave Media was honored to receive a call from TIME magazine’s video department about filming an upcoming video series called The Ultras: Extreme Adventurers. The web series documents adventurers around the globe. The segment we filmed was on world renowned tightrope walker Nik Wallenda. (Please wait a minute for the video below to load)

Nik Wallenda is a 7th generation funambulist or more commonly known as a tightrope walker. His family has been challenging themselves and taking risks with acrobatics since the beginning of the 18th Century. Nik has broken several world records since he started performing on the high-wire. He is the first person to walk across the Grand Canyon on a tightrope. Some of his other feats include: tightrope walking across Niagara Falls, walking between two Chicago skyscrapers blindfolded, and hanging from a helicopter with only his teeth. He has 9 Guiness World Records and he recently set another world record with his latest acrobatics challenge.

Our Tampa video production company was honored to film an exclusive interview with Nik Wallenda about his next high-wire performance for TIME Magazine. Wallenda walked on top of the observation wheel called the Orlando Eye, a 400-foot-tall spinning wheel, on April 29th. Unlike the tightrope walking, this new challenge was different in that the wheel was constantly moving so he had to keep pace with it as it rotated.

Our Tampa video crew took our Tampa grip truck to the location in Sarasota. Christian directed the interview and operated the camera, Harold “Pinky” Hood served as lighting tech, and Ana Christina Sanchez was production assistant for the shoot. During the interview, Nik talked about his passion for tightrope walking, his family legacy and his next challenge – walking atop the Orlando Eye.

Nik walks on the tightrope he uses for training

Our Tampa video production crew captured Nik Wallenda training for his next tightrope walk. He utilizes a smaller practice rope where he polishes his technique before a challenge. During his strict training regimen, he simulates the environment he will be in when performing. To capture some dynamic b-roll Litewave Media brought out our EZ-FX Jib to film Nik on the tightrope. Christian and Ana Christina also traveled around Sarasota filming b-roll for the video. They filmed iconic Tampa Bay landmarks including the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Tampa Bay to set the scene for the story.

Litewave Media Films Short Film at Historic Fort De Soto

Litewave Media Films Short Film at Historic Fort De Soto

Mysterious gypsies. Deceitful pirates. Treasures and magic! Litewave Media’s latest film production, directed by Bahamian native Iris Saunders, was quite an adventure. We filmed over the course of 3 days in St. Petersburg, Florida’s historic Fort De Soto Beach. Our Florida video company is no stranger to movies; our latest short film, The Skyship Chronicles [Part 1], is currently playing the festival circuit around the country and already has won 2 Audience Choice Awards. Our team at Litewave Media previously filmed Iris’ debut music video at our video production studio last year. Our Tampa video production company was excited to partner again with Iris for her short film, The Pirate Gypsies.

In addition to filming the project, Iris hired our Tampa production crew to coordinate the shoot and secure permits for the film. Iris and Litewave Media founder, Christian Cashmir, met before the shoot to write, plan and storyboard the film. Iris decided that she wanted to film at night to create a dark mysterious atmosphere for the film.

Christian and Iris work on the script and storyboards for the film

Once the script was finalized, our production team held a casting and audition at our Tampa video production studio to find actors that could fit the unique roles. Once Iris cast the actors, we were ready to schedule our production. The day before filming, we had a rehearsal and costume fitting for the actors at our video studio. We used a Canon C100 and two Sony A7S video cameras to film the movie. The Sony A7s performed great in the low light night scenes. We also used a Canon 5D to take some behind the scenes pictures.

The production consisted of 9 main actors and 19 crew members. Iris was the director while Robbie Bartlett was the assistant director. Christian Cashmir was the director of photography and producer. John Jones was gaffer and second camera. Brandon Hyde was the camera assistant. Harold “Pinky” Hood was the grip for the shoot while Ana Christina Sanchez was the production coordinator and script supervisor. Samantha Bryans, Kira Howe and Maxime Puister were production assistants for the shoot. Bridget Bartley and Andrea Gonzalez were in charge of the wardrobe department while Samantha Greene was the make-up artist.

Some of our Tampa post production crew editing the film on set

We had our Tampa post production company set up in the trailer on set. One of our assistant editors, Brandon, and visual effects guru, Josh Noftz, were able to start editing the footage immediately and ensure an easy transition to post once the shoot wrapped. Our post production team finished editing the movie at our Tampa video editing suites. Stephen Maxwell composed the music for the film, and Christian and Iris wrote and recorded the final song of the film together at our Tampa recording studio.

Filming at the Historic Fort in St. Petersburg’s Fort De Soto State Park

The first day our Tampa video team filmed at the Historic Fort in Fort De Soto. We took our Tampa grip truck to the location, which included 6 Litepanel LED lights, a few 1K and 2K lights, our HMIs and Joker 800, as well as 2 generators to light up the night scene. We also were excited to use our new Tampa MōVI M5 rental from our Tampa video production equipment and capture some unique angles at the Fort. Our second unit team also filmed some of the opening shots for the movie on the beach with the sunset in the background.

The second day, we filmed in the middle of the woods in Fort De Soto. Our production designers decorated the location with props and set pieces to set the scene of a cursed island. Gaffer, John, with grip, Pinky, lit up a large section of the forest using our lighting equipment and generators.

Litewave Media Films TV Commercial For Sarasota Boating Company

Litewave Media Films TV Commercial For Sarasota Boating Company

Open water. Sunsets on the Gulf. Wind blowing in our hair….Our latest shoot might sound more like a vacation! But our team worked hard to get some amazing shots for boating company, Beavertail Skiffs! The Litewave Media production team spent two days filming on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico capturing cinematic footage of the boats as well as interviews that will be used for both a TV commercial and web video. Beavertail Skiffs are manufactured with advanced technology making their boats top notch in performance, quality and durability – and the video will show how they use this tech to make the best boats. Beavertail Skiffs was looking to film a TV commercial to promote their product and hired our Tampa video production company to take on the challenge.

Our Tampa camera operator, John Jones, films onboard a Beavertail Skiff boat

Our Tampa video crew member, John Jones, was the cinematographer for the shoot. He filmed on the Sony FS100 video camera which enabled him to capture sweeping slow motion shots of the boats. The first day, our Tampa video production team started at the warehouse to film some interviews with Beavertail Skiffs’ owners William and Elizabeth Leslie. We brought our Litepanel LED lights and Kino Flo Divas from our Tampa grip truck to light up the interviews. “We love using the LEDs to film interviews,” says John. “They are easy to transport and quick to setup on smaller shoots. It makes us really efficient.”

The second day, Beavertail Skiffs brought 5 boats into the open water. John captured cinematic shots filming from a variety of angles. Some of the shots included filming the owners and employees using different fishing techniques, including flight fishing, and the boats traveling through the sea in slow-motion. At the end of the day, the team captured a perfect sunset with the boats riding off into the sunset.
