This summer Litewave Media, Tampa’s premiere video production company, competed in an international short film competition: the 48 hour Guerrilla Film Contest (www.48gfc.com). In just 2 short days our Tampa video production crew wrote, filmed, and edited a short film. Our video production team filmed at a local video studio right here in Tampa bay. The film was written and directed by Litewave Media’s own Christian Schwier. Special FX were supervised by our longtime FX guru Steve Allen and post production was done in St. Petersburg, Florida at Litewave Media’s production studio – edited by Jamie Parslow and Christian Schwier.
Our Tampa video production team reunited at the film premiere a week later, and were honored to win the best Special FX award (besting over 180 teams from around the globe!). Check out our award-winning film below:
Last year I got a chance to check out the Saint Petersburg Grand Prix for the first time from the sidelines and had a blast, so when we got the call from a Japanese production company to film a series of TV commercials for Japanese racecar driver Takuma Sato we were very excited. The weekend of video production turned out to be quite intense.
With full access passes, we were able to even get out on the track and shoot just a few feet from the cars racing by! Our tampa video production crew got some great footage of the event. (Check out our pics below). Our St. Petersburg production crew also filmed an exclusive interview with Takuma Sato and got some great behind the scenes video footage. We hope to go back again next year!

Our Tampa video production team just had the pleasure of producing a new 5 minute web video/infomercial for Ideal Image the nation’s #1 laser hair removal company. We produced the video over the past month and incorporated client testimonials as well as video of actual treatment providers. Our Tampa post production team also created two 3D animations for the video production. Take a look!
Our Tampa photography and video production team had the pleasure of photographing the CEO of Health-e-Systems for the February cover of Smart Business magazine. We photographed the cover as well as a few 2 page spreads for the cover story. Our Tampa photographers shot portraits as well as more documentary-style with Ron, their CEO, interacting with the company’s employees.
Our Tampa post production team also recently completed production on a 3D animation for Health-e-Systems. This video production was created for their trade show and the video will also be going up on their YouTube page.
Over the past several years the video production industry has seen a gradual transition from traditional camcorders like the Panasonic HVX200 to digital DSLR cameras like the Canon D series. What brought about the transition from camcorder to DSLR?
DSLR cameras have a smaller camera body and perform better in low light and offer a wide range of lenses that are easy and quick to change. These factors make the DSLR a cost effective alternative to the large camcorders. Many Hollywood productions are embracing DSLRs and making the switch. Several primetime dramas have started to use DSLRs as well, including the hit show Numb3rs. Another series to embrace the SLR is the medical drama, House. The entire final episode of this season was filmed on the Canon 5D Mark II. Check out the teaser below.
At Litewave Media, we’re no exception. Several months ago our Tampa video production company began incorporating DSLR cameras, such as our Canon 5D and 7D, into our video production equipment. Our latest award-winning independent film, StarGump was filmed on the Canon 5D Mark II. We have been using the DSLR for commercial productions in the Tampa Bay area including a local Sarasota solar panel installation business. However Litewave Media will continue to use camcorders as well, making Litewave Media a truly versatile company capable of both camcorder and DSLR filming.
